| Chuck Bartowski is an average, 20-something computer geek who only happens to gain the interest of the proverbial "hot chick" after the world's greatest spy secrets are somehow embedded in his brain. The actor who plays him, however, need only stand or swiftly step (swaggering is not his style) into a room to garner an appreciative gaze from the ladies. For one thing, Zachary Levi is impossibly tall and those who ever have the privilege of meeting the man in person will be stunned - I certainly was! - to realise the lad is quite a looker when he's not donning the typical Chuck nerd attire, complete with goofy grin. The "Levi package" is completed by his approachable, boy-next-door demeanour, in turn complemented by his casual choice of clothing consisting of jeans, sneakers and a tracksuit top. That he enthusiastically chatters on about "the incredible things I've heard about your country" and how "the people I know who've been there weren't lying - South Africans really are a rocking, good-looking bunch" naturally sees his overall schlebb rating soar into A+ territory. What can I say? Even jaded journos are easily flattered from time to time. Alas, much like his character, it seems Zach has a penchant for buxom blondes with button noses: he and actor-singer Caitlin Crosby were hot and heavy for more than two years. Sadly for Caitlin (who, ironically, first caught Zach's attention when she featured in an ad campaign for Levi jeans) but fortunately for any other celeb groupies hoping to weasel their way into his arms, he called it quits on their relationship earlier this year. The usual accusations - ranging from Zach supposedly having done the horizontal mambo with another woman, to him ditching Caitlin because his star is on the rise - have all made their way on the rumour rollercoaster. As a result, Levi has found himself in the direct firing line of them church-going folk for what one can only imagine they deem to be his ungodly behaviour, given his self-proclaimed status as a "committed Christian". Guess they would be none too pleased, then, had they witnessed their "son" smoking up a cigarette storm and enjoying a drink or two with his fellow festival attendees on the closing gala evening of the event. Oh the shock, the horror! And while we're on the subject, one wonders what they'd have to say about Zach's penchant for motorbikes - traditionally associated with the boozing, cussing bad-boy crowd... "(Laughs) I'd love to think I'm all bad ass - mainly because chicks dig it," he teases. "But, like my character, I'm really a complete geek at heart, especially when it comes to computers and new TV technology," says Zach, adding his big dream is to be part of the global team that will eventually steer all television on to the net "because that's the way of the future and nowadays, more and more people are watching their favourite shows via visual and audio streaming." After a period of what I jokingly term his enthusiastic "Chuck speak", Levi almost pleadingly attempts to convince us "I'm a cool, down kinda dude, too - don't get me wrong". "Dude" Zach? "Okay, so maybe I'm not quite up there with the vampire brothers (referring to Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder, who saunter past) and maybe I do prefer hanging out with close friends to all the flashy Hollywood-type parties, but what's wrong with that?" Nothing wrong with that at all, dear Zach. # Chuck season III premiered on M-Net last week and airs every Tuesday at 7.30pm. |
