Kick Ass Women on TV - Meet Agent Sarah Walker - Chuck - NBC
| As a huge fan of Chuck, writing an article about the character who turned me from a fan to a Fangirl is hard. Summing up why Sarah Walker is kick ass in just a few paragraphs is like Mission: Impossible. She is the kick ass, gun-toting woman that we never get tired of seeing. Sarah Walker, played by the extremely talented Yvonne Strahovski, is the kick ass CIA agent protecting our favorite geek-turned-spy, Chuck Bartowski. She’s one of the more complex characters I’ve seen in a long time, and it’s great to watch her evolve from a seemingly emotionless spy to, dare I say it, more of a normal person. Here are several things about Sarah that you need to know before tuning into Season 4. * Sarah’s real name is Sam. Though to us, she’ll always known as Sarah. * Her middle name is Lisa. In Chuck vs. The Wookie, Chuck asked Sarah to tell him one “real” thing about her. Sarah, fighting with the desire to tell him, reveals her middle name after he had walked away. * Sarah’s high school mascot are the Cougars. * She has gone under different aliases: Jenny Burton, Rebecca Franco, Katie O’Connell. * In Chuck vs. The Delorean, we find out that her dad is a con artist who employed Sarah in some of his exploits. * Sarah’s old partner, Bryce Larkin, was Chuck’s old friend from Stanford, and was also responsible for sending Chuck the Intersect. Sarah and Bryce also dated when they were partners. Bryce died in the Season 2 finale, Chuck vs. The Ring. * Sarah first reveals her true feelings for Chuck when she kissed him in season one, thinking that they were going to die. But they didn’t. * As part of her cover, Sarah worked as a clerk for the Weinerlicious (Season One), and then at the Orange Orange Frozen Yogurt shop (Seasons Two and Three). * Sarah is a very skilled dancer. * She has her pilots license. (The Fangirls like to call her Captain Walker.) * She always carries a gun and a set of knives. * Sarah is highly skilled in hand-to-hand combat, and always wins. She is so good that Chuck’s dad thought she too had the Intersect 2.0 in her head. (Nope, she is just that awesome) * In Chuck vs. The First Date, she agrees to go on a real date with Chuck. * She doesn’t really listen to any music. * In season three, she starts to date Daniel Shaw. Unbeknownst to Sarah until much later, the woman she killed in her “red test” was Evelyn Shaw, Daniel’s wife. * John Casey is Sarah’s partner. Some of their scenes are the best moments in the series. * She can speak Polish and Russian. (Yvonne is Australian of Polish-descent) * Her only spy friend is Karina with whom she shares an odd relationship. Sarah is always getting her out of trouble. * We have only heard Sarah speak with an Aussie accent once. (Yvonne is Australian) * Sarah served as one of Ellie’s bridesmaids, although she often finds it difficult to talk to Chuck’s sister Ellie alone. * We rarely see her wear a red dress. * Sarah protects and tries to help Chuck at all costs. In Chuck vs. The Santa Claus, she kills a Fulcrum agent when he threatens to reveal Chuck as the Intersect. In Chuck vs. The First Kill she goes AWOL to help Chuck find his dad. This continued through Chuck vs. The Colonel where an iconic Chuck/Sarah kiss occurred.  * In Chuck vs. The Truth we out that she can lie under the influence of truth serum. * One of our favorite Sarah quotes: “Look at me, do I look like a amateur?” * Sarah is in love with Chuck. At the end of season 2, Sarah was ready to give up her spy life to be with Chuck until he downloaded Intersect 2.0. In the season 3 premiere, she asked Chuck to run away with her, finally opening herself to love, but he shot her down. By the end of season 3, she and Chuck consummate their love in Paris after Chuck saves her from Shaw. Creators Fedak and Schwartz have reassured us that there will no longer be the “Will They Won’t They” in season 4. The problems that Chuck & Sarah will face are problems they will face as a couple. Yvonne Strahovski portrays Sarah perfectly. As Sarah, Yvonne’s facial expressions and body language show us a woman who is guarded and has had a rough past. Because of this, Sarah has issues with trust and letting people in. She is afraid that if she opens up she will get hurt. No one could do portray this better than Yvonne does. Sarah has grown so much from season 1-3 and every episode is something new. Whether it’s kicking someone’s ass or fixing Chuck’s hair, we see a new emotion or new skill. There is rarely a dull moment when Sarah is around, and that is what makes us love her. Sarah Walker will always be our favorite and long after Chuck has gone, and I guarantee, we will compare all kick ass females to her. Chuck season 4 premieres Monday, September 20th on NBC at 7pm/central. |
