'Killer Elite' strikes 2 deals De Niro-Clive Owen starrer nabs territory deals By Pamela McClintock Jason Statham-Robert De Niro-Clive Owen topliner "Killer Elite" has struck two more key territory deals as filmmakers prepare to show footage from the international action thriller for the first time to buyers at the American Film Market. Omnilab Media is producing the film, which is based on Ranulph Fiennes' controversial non-fiction novel "The Feather Men." Inferno Entertainment is handling international sale. In recent days, it has sealed deals with TF1 in France and Entertainment One in Canada. The pic, currently in post-producton, had already been generating keen interest among other foreign distribs. Territories previously sold include the U.K. (Entertainment Film Distribution), Benelux (RCV), and Germany and Switzerland (Tele Munchen). In addition to screening footage for foreign buyers, Omnilab Media will also court U.S. distributors with footage and talk about strategies for releasing the film. Pic is eyeing to hit theaters in the latter half of 2011. AFM unspools Wednesday in Santa Monica. "To date, Inferno has been doing very strong pre-sales based on an exciting screenplay and a very strong cast. The distributors who have come on board will be seeing some early footage and I'm confident they will be delighted with their investment," Omnilab's Christopher Mapp said. "Killer Elite" -- previously titled "The Killer Elite" -- is helmed by Gary McKendry in his feature directorial debut. Storyline centers on a former Navy Seal (Statham) who is forced out of exile to reassemble his team, including his mentor (De Niro), for a no-holds-barred confrontation with a renegade leader (Owen) who is protecting a cell of soldiers/assassins operating within a secret government org. Omnilab completed financing of the pic with rebate assistance from Film Victoria and the Australian producer offset. Michael Boughen is producing via Ambience Entertainment, Omnilab's Australian production arm. Mapp is exec producing with Matthew Street, David Whealy, Peter D. Graves and Steve Chasman. |
